Pioneer Bakery, a custom cake and scratch bakery in downtown Puyallup, will close its doors Saturday, Sept. 1.
Located at 120 South Meridian, Pioneer Bakery has been in the Puyallup community since 1926.
Owner Patti Bostwick said concerns regarding her health have led her to make the hard decision of closing the highly popular bakery and cafe.
"We've never struggled when the times are bad," Bostwick said. "People come here when the economy is bad for comfort food. We've always been busy."
Bostwick purchased the business May 1, 2005. She is a co-owner with her husband, Jake.
"We have a lot of regulars and a lot of people that when I tell them we're closing they start crying," Bostwick said. "A lot of people grew up with this place."
