A South Hill man died Friday after an unoccupied septic truck rolled down a hill and struck his motorcycle, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.

The 30-year-old man was headed north on 122nd Avenue East shortly before 5:15 p.m., Troyer said. The truck, owned by an Eatonville company, was parked on a slope along 151st Street East.

The truck, heading west, rolled about 500 feet and into the intersection, where it struck the man.

The truck’s driver, 63, told sheriff’s deputies he’d set the parking brake. An inspection after the incident showed no sign the brake had been set, Troyer said. Deputies cited the man for negligent driving and lack of control of the truck.

The dead man’s name was not released Friday. His family had not been notified by early evening, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s office.
