Deputies have arrested two people in the death of Leon Dwayne Baucham Jr., a 33-year-old Puyallup man whose body was found tied up and shot on the side of a rural Key Peninsula road last month.

A woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping, said Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.

“After we did some quick investigation, we determined that (the body was found) within a quarter-mile” of the woman’s house, Troyer said.

Troyer said an accomplice, who officials think the woman enlisted to carry out the assault and killing, was arrested Friday.

The Medical Examiner’s Office said last month that Baucham died from a gunshot wound to the torso.

His body was found by a couple walking their dog the evening of July 12 in the 14900 block of 82nd Avenue Northwest, near Wauna in unincorporated Pierce County.

The body had been there only a matter of days, Troyer said, and investigators think Baucham was killed at a different location.

Officials are investigating whether anyone else was involved with Baucham’s death.

The News Tribune isn’t naming the suspects because they haven’t been charged.
