The City of Tacoma announced Monday a new economic development director and a new interim finance director.

Ricardo Noguera of Visalia, Calif., has been hired to run the city’s Community and Economic Development Department. For the past five years in Visalia, Noguera has led affordable housing, economic development and code enforcement initiatives, according to a City of Tacoma news release. He also has worked for North Miami, Fla.

Noguera replaces Ryan Petty, who left the city in May during a reshuffle by new City Manager T.C. Broadnax. Noguera starts Sept. 10. His annual salary will be $147,659.

Also Monday, Broadnax appointed Steve Call as the city’s interim finance director, effective immediately. The city’s current interim finance director, Jeff Litchfield, has accepted a job as city manager for Hondo, Texas. Litchfield was filling in after Bob Biles left earlier this year.

Call was the director of the Office of Management and Budget for King County from 2001 to 2005 and was its interim director in 2009, according to the release. He also served as interim chief financial officer for Seattle City Light. His annual salary in Tacoma will be $188,320.

The city plans a formal search for a permanent finance director.
