  • Pasco to hold meetings on road construction

    Pasco will have two public meetings Wednesday about upcoming road construction projects.

    The first meeting is at 5:30 p.m., and will provide information and a question-and-answer session about widening Oregon Avenue to five lanes from Interstate 182 to Highway 395. The new road will include left turn lanes and curbs and gutters along both sides.

    The second meeting is at 7 p.m. on the extension of Powerline Road from Broadmoor Boulevard to Road 68. The project includes construction of a two-lane road with curbs and gutters on the south side and intersections at Road 68, Road 84, Road 90 and Broadmoor.

  • Crash between vehicle, ATV closes highway near Connell

    Highway 260 near Connell closed for several hours Friday night while police investigated a serious traffic crash.

    Initial reports were that a vehicle collided with an all-terrain vehicle about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 260 and Highway 17 near Buehler Lane, which is about four miles east of the Connell. The highway reopened around 9 p.m.

    The Washington State Patrol and Connell Police Department investigated. No other details were available.

  • Construction planned on Road 68

    Road 68 -- one of Pasco's primary retail and commercial corridors -- will undergo more than $1 million in improvements this summer to beef up the road's ability to move an estimated 50,000 cars per day.

    That many trips is equivalent to about 80 percent of the city's population of 63,000 people traveling the busy west Pasco road each day, and a consultant's study found in 2012 that a number of short- and long-term improvements are needed to smooth out traffic and make the area safer.

    The city council at a workshop Monday heard that the Public Works Department is ready to hire design and survey firms for the project, with an eye toward starting construction by July.

  • Construction to ease traffic on Guide's busiest stretch in Bellingham

    BELLINGHAM - With an approach that state officials call "creative" and "cost-effective," small changes will be built into the busiest stretch of Guide Meridian in the city, starting in May.

    The goal is to untie some traffic knots and improve safety on the Guide from Interstate 5 north to Horton Road.

    The Department of Transportation announced Monday, April 8, that Colacurcio Brothers Construction Co. of Blaine will modify the stretch of highway. Work should begin the second half of May.
