    -- University of Florida Law Professor Dennis Calfee was the Gerald T. Hart Outstanding Tax Attorney of the Year. Calfee was born in Pasco and raised in Connell where his father was the town's sole pharmacist. He graduated from Gonzaga University. The award was presented at the Florida Bar Tax Section's annual meeting April 27.

    -- Yong Wang, a fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, has been elected a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is a Voiland distinguished professor at Washington State University Pullman and also is the associate director of PNNL's Institute for Integrated Catalysis. His research focuses on the development of novel catalytic materials and reaction engineering for the conversion of fossil and biomass feedstocks to fuels and chemicals.

    The scholarship is named for David Hernandez, a Washington State University graduate who died in 2005 in a car accident.
