An enforcement campaign targeting drunken drivers kicked off Friday in Pierce County.

The Drive Hammered, Get Nailed campaign will run until Sept. 3 and include 14 law enforcement agencies.

Last year in Pierce County, patrol officers arrested 287 people on suspicion of driving under the influence during the same enforcement period. Officials said 5,328 people were charged with DUIs last year.

The following agencies are taking part: Bonney Lake, DuPont, Fife, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Milton, Puyallup, Steilacoom, Sumner, Tacoma and University Place police; the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department; and the State Patrol.
