Pierce County sheriff’s deputies have recovered two vintage cars stolen from a South Hill warehouse last week.

Deputies found the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on Friday in the Gem Heights area of South Hill, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle was recovered a few days ago in Tacoma.

Tips from people who saw media accounts about the stolen cars led to their recovery, he said.

Police were processing the cars for fingerprints and other clues but had made no arrests as of Friday afternoon.

“We do have some leads,” Troyer said.

The cars, each valued at more than $150,000, were stolen late Aug. 8 or early Aug. 9 from a warehouse near 162nd Street and Meridian East. They were owned by Gary Tucci.

The Corvette was purchased last year at the Barrett-Jackson auction, which is billed as “the world’s greatest collector car auctions.” It sold for $115,500. Tucci bought the Chevelle three years ago from a private collector in Arizona.
