 • Pack up the kids and head out for Kids Club at Allan Yorke Park at 11 a.m. Today’s entertainment is Johnny Bregar. Pack a lunch and let the kids enjoy the park for an afternoon of free fun. It’s at 7203 West Tapps Highway E., Bonney Lake. It’s free; 253-862-8602.

 • Head out to the ballpark for a night of local baseball. The Tacoma Rainiers will take on Reno at 7:05 tonight at Cheney Stadium, 2502 S. Tyler St., Tacoma.

 • How about some live music? Check out Rock N Roll Magic when they take the stage at 8 tonight at Three Chicks Catering, 3822 S. Union Ave., Tacoma. Also performing will be The Blackberry Bushes Stringband at New Frontier Lounge, 301 E. 25th St., Tacoma. They begin playing at 8; cover is $5.

  • Special education overhaul aims to keep Tacoma students in neighborhood schools

    Tacoma Public Schools wants to launch a major overhaul of its special education system in hopes that students with special needs can be better integrated into the mainstream.

  • SANTA RUNS TACOMA

    What: Santa Runs Tacoma offers 5- and 10-kilometer races and a 1-kilometer race for kids. Even dogs (on short leashes) are welcome to participate in the 5K event. Participants are encouraged to run in holiday costumes. Dressing up isn’t required but there will be a costume contest as part of the festivities. Santa will be running the race. Catch him if you can.

    Get a jump on the car show season and head out to the Almost Spring Swap Meet featuring vintage car parts, antiques and collectibles, and a vintage classic car show. It’s at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center, 110 Ninth Ave. SW, Puyallup. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 today and $3 Sunday. Kids younger than 12 are free with an adult.

  • UWT administrator values giving back to community

    Cedric Howard was raised by a single mother in inner city Macon, Ga., a community he credits with his success today as the University of Washington Tacoma vice chancellor for student affairs. He was raised to give back to the areas he lives in, and received the Weyerhaeuser Living the Dream award this year, which recognizes people who reflect the values taught by Martin Luther King Jr.
