Off-price clothing emporium Marshalls plans a grand opening of its new Gig Harbor store Sept. 6.

The store at 4601 Pt. Fosdick Drive NW covers some 26,000 square feet of space. The new store is one of 880 Marshalls operating in 43 states and Puerto Rico.

    The department cited a recent incident involving two unsupervised children who narrowly avoided serious injury when a plastic gas can caught fire. Officials caution people to properly store gas and keep it away from children.

    The children started a gas fire in a pit and a trail of spilled gas leading back to the can caught fire, said Deputy Fire Marshal Joe Terpenning.
