Law enforcement and volunteers will be canvassing bars on Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue tonight to warn people about the ongoing DUI patrols in Pierce County.

Fourteen local agencies are participating in the Drive Hammered, Get Nailed campaign, which will last through Sept. 3. It focuses on taking drunken drivers off the roads.

Tonight, 25 law enforcement officers will pair with members of the community to notify patrons of Sixth Avenue bars about the enforcement period and suggest ways to get home safely.

The Tacoma Aloha Cab Co. will have five taxis stationed at popular locations to help drinkers get home.

A mobile impaired driving unit will be on scene to process those arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
