A Renton police officer was injured when a pickup truck rammed the officer's patrol car Friday at 8 p.m.

According to the Renton Police Department press release, the 36-year-old officer was going southbound on Edmonds Avenue N.E. and was stopped behind a vehicle at a traffic light at an intersection with Sunset Boulevard N.E. when the 38-year-old male driver, who was driving a Chevy Avalanche truck westbound on Sunset Boulevard, turned right onto Edmonds Avenue and drove towards the patrol car.

The officer did not see the truck coming towards him as the pickup hit the patrol car in the rear door and quarter panel.

The officer was transported to Valley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries to his head, shoulder and back.

The suspect was uninjured and arrested for assault with a vehicle. It is unknown if he was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

The situation is currently under investigation.
