Mitchell, a sixth-round pick in the 2010 draft, had three receptions for 31 yards in 11 games last season for Cleveland. The South Florida product played in five games as a rookie.
The Browns also released offensive linemen Jake Anderson and Matt Cleveland, defensive back Emanuel Davis, linebacker JoJo Dickson, punter Spencer Lanning and wide receivers Bert Reed, Jermaine Saffold and Owen Spencer.
