The Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters, is now “bannering” Columbia Bank’s Tacoma headquarters on A Street in downtown Tacoma.

In an email to its DuPont employees, State Farm confirmed its plans to locate some of its offices in downtown Tacoma late this year. The email, dated April 2 but received by most employees today, also assured employees that the company plans to continue to use its DuPont facility, and it cautioned that references to number of potential employees in Tacoma are "purely speculative."
Melanie Dressel has a mantra. Columbia Bank will be, she says, "the best community bank in every community Columbia serves."
Tacoma-based Columbia Banking System on Thursday reported fourth quarter income of $13.5 million, a decline from fourth quarter income of $14.8 million reported for the fourth quarter of 2011. Earnings per share for the quarter were 34 cents, compared to 37 cents the year before.
Although State Farm officials remain mum, a deal appears to be in the works that would create 2,000 jobs in downtown Tacoma by the end of the year. The potential economic swoon has awakened Tacoma residents and downtown business owners.
‘Like a good neighbor”? For downtown Tacoma, State Farm might be “like the best neighbor ever.”
