Authorities in Hawaii have arrested a man suspected of setting a fire last month that badly damaged an Auburn storage facility.
Police on Maui arrested Michael Aguilar recently on a King County warrant charging him with second-degree arson, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported Monday. He is expected to be extradited back to Western Washington soon to answer the charge.
Fire broke out July 11 at Auburn Way Storage. The flames quickly spread, and more than 70 firefighters from multiple agencies were needed to bring it under control. Officials estimated damage at $1 million.
Prosecutors wrote in charging papers that they believe Aguilar set the fire as “revenge on a specific victim for an unpaid debt.”
At least one firefighter was injured battling the blaze.
