The Cincinnati Bengals signed veteran center Jeff Faine on Wednesday.
The move comes less than a week after starting center Kyle Cook suffered an injury to his right foot in Thursday's preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers. His status for the season is undetermined.
Faine, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March, is entering his 10th NFL season. He spent the last four years with Tampa Bay and started 15 games in 2011.
The 31-year-old Notre Dame product was selected 21st overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2003 draft. He has appeared in 117 games -- all starts -- with the Browns, New Orleans Saints and Buccaneers during his career.
To make room for Faine on the roster, the Bengals released wide receiver Justin Hilton.
