A man crashed his car Tuesday in Fife while driving under the influence with his infant and his 3-year-old child in the vehicle, police said.

Michael Brecheen, 27, was passing on a corner in a no-passing zone when he swerved off the road and came to rest near a telephone pole, Fife Police Cmdr. Tim Floyd said.

Officials were called to the crash in the 3100 block of Freeman Road East at 3:41 p.m. They learned the man had taken the two children to their mother’s house nearby after the crash, then returned to the vehicle, Floyd said.

Officers checked on the children and determined no one had been injured.

It’s not clear where the children were in the car, but police said there was one booster seat in the vehicle.

KIRO-TV reported that other drivers who rushed to help saw the infant on his lap and the son unrestrained in the back seat, according to police.

Brecheen pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving and two counts of reckless endangerment in Fife Municipal court, according to KIRO. He was ordered held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
