Get Out of the Rut Weekend at Northwest Trek Wildlife Park provides a chance to learn about the breeding season of hooved animals such as Roosevelt elk, caribou, deer and bighorn sheep.
Activities run from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Monday, and are free with park admission. The park is at 11610 Trek Drive E., Eatonville.
Among the weekend’s activities are the chance to earn a rut survival badge. Visitors pick up a “Can You Survive the Rut” program. At various stations throughout the park, they’ll learn how to thrash like elk, match male headgear with the appropriate female animal name, be the lead cow and choose the best bull elk.
Families can make animal crafts in the Rut Craft Tent. And there will be antlers on display in the Cheney Discovery Center. Visitors will learn about how and why they’re grown, the role they play in the rut and fun facts about them. For more information, go to nwtrek.org or call 360-832-7166.
