Jets make cuts before deadline

The Jets reduced their roster to 60 but still need to cut seven more players before Friday's 9 p.m. deadline.

The Jets reduced their roster to 53 players on Friday, reaching the NFL's mandatory deadline.

Defensive end Jay Richardson, quarterback Matt Simms and sixth-round rookie offensive lineman Robert Griffin were among those waived. Defensive back D'Anton Lynn, son of Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn, also was cut.

Running back Terrance Ganaway, wide receivers Royce Pollard and Jordan White, tight end Hayden Smith, offensive lineman Paul Cornick, linebacker Ricky Sapp and defensive back Donnie Fletcher were also among the casualties of the NFL's annual rsoter reduction.

Others released included wide receivers Joseph Collins and Eron Riley, defensive lineman Martin Tevaseu, punter Spencer Lanning, linebackers Marcus Dowtin and Brett Roy, defensive backs LeQuan Lewis and Julian Posey and tight end Tarren Lloyd.
