  • Bellingham Rising joins Feb. 14 global campaign to end violence against women, girls

    BELLINGHAM - A Valentine's Day event at Bellingham High School will be part of a global campaign to end violence against women and girls.

    Called Bellingham Rising, the free event will feature more than 100 dancers, video, speakers and spoken-word presentations, according to organizers. Girls Inc. and Bellingham Children's Theatre are the sponsors.

    Doors open at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in the auditorium of the high school, 2020 Cornwall Ave. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

  • Allegiant to offer flights between Bellingham and Reno starting in June

    BELLINGHAM - Allegiant is offering nonstop jet service between Bellingham and Reno beginning Thursday, June 6.

    The company will introduce the new service with fares as low as $69.99 one way. Allegiant plans on offering these flights year round.

    "We are pleased to bring another affordable and convenient travel option to the residents of Bellingham," said Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company president, in a news release. "We are confident the Bellingham community will appreciate the convenience of flying nonstop to Reno-Tahoe and the value of bundling their air, hotel and car rental reservation together."

  • Human trafficking focus of March 9 talk in Bellingham

    BELLINGHAM - A discussion on human trafficking in Whatcom County is set for Saturday, March 9, at the Bellingham Public Library.

    The event is 9 a.m. to noon in the lecture room of the library, 210 Central Ave.

    It will include presentations by Community to Community, Washington Engage, Access Freedom, Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, and Engedi Refuge Ministries.
