The Dallas Cowboys waived quarterback Stephen McGee and claimed tight end Colin Cochart off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday.

Dallas will head into Wednesday's season regular-season opener against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants with Kyle Orton backing up Tony Romo.

McGee played in all four preseason games this year, throwing for 310 yards with one interception and no touchdowns.

The Texas A&M product has played in three career games for the Cowboys, throwing for 420 yards and three scores.

The Cowboys felt that an extra tight end was needed due to Jason Witten's injury. Witten is healing from a spleen injury and his status is not yet known for Wednesday's game.
