ON THE ROAD: Jefferson County Farm Tour
What: This is the 10th annual tour of farms, many located on or near state Route 19. This year’s tour will have stops at 15 working farms specializing in producing everything from hard cider to wool to goat’s milk. Each farm on this self-guided tour will have an assortment of educational demonstrations, live music and other family friendly activities.
When: Sept. 16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Where: Event is based at Chimacum Corner Farmstand, 9l22 Rhody Dr., Chimacum, about 10 miles south of Port Townsend. The newly opened stand features items produced on 20 farms in eastern Jefferson County.
Starting point: While at Farm Tour Central, pick up a tour guidebook, a “Tour de Fermes” biking map and some carpool companions if you would like.
The farms: Among the stops are Whiskey Hill Farm that produces goat milk and cheeses; Spring Rain Farm & Orchard, a certified organic farm that produces chicken, lamb, turkey and eggs; Finnriver Farm & Cidery, an organic family farm and artisan cidery; and Willow Wind Farm and Gardens, a family farm growing berries, flowers, herbs and vegetable starts.
Prize drawings: People stopping at the stand can purchase prize tickets for $5. A drawing will be held for a number of prizes, including overnight stays in the area.
By bike: Those who prefer to do the tour by bike also can visit the Port Townsend Bicycle Association’s website at ptbikes.org/?page=rides to get biking maps for the farm tour.
