A battalion of Joint Base Lewis-McChord artillerymen came home to the South Sound on Monday, ending an 11-month deployment to eastern Afghanistan.

A battalion of Joint Base Lewis-McChord artillerymen came home to the South Sound on Monday, ending an 11-month deployment to eastern Afghanistan.

About 200 soldiers from Lewis-McChord’s 1st Battalion, 377th Field Artillery Regiment of the 17th Fires Brigade made the trip home.

  • Two Richland homes damaged in fire

    Two neighboring homes on Desert Springs Avenue in south Richland were damaged Friday night in a fire. No one was hurt in the blaze, which broke out about 8 or 8:30 p.m., said Battalion Chief James Hempstead of the Richland Fire Department.

    It appears the fire started outside, possibly in a fence line area between the homes, he said.

    The cause is under investigation.
