  • Sentinels defeat Rams on the basketball court

Spanaway Lake Sentinels basketball head coach Ken Leise was smiling from ear to ear while waiting for his players to enter the visitors locker room at Paul Stilnovich Pavilion following a convincing 63-47 win against the Rogers Rams.

The victory improved the Sentinels record to 4-2 overall, but that wasn't what Leise was most excited about.

"It's been a long time since we've won here (at Rogers High School). I couldn't even tell you how long it has been. We had a good chance three years ago and we had a good chance last year. They've just had our number. We just played so well tonight," Leise said. "Our best player and leading scorer (Braxton Tucker) was out tonight and we still got it done. Having Braxton out gave everybody else a chance to contribute in different ways and step up tonight. We are excited about the win."

Kids, this one’s for you. Of course, Olympia's Arts Walk is a big event for pretty much everyone – or at least it feels that way when you’re navigating the Capitol Way sidewalks. But the 46th Arts Walk, happening Friday night and Saturday, offers a lot for the younger set. For example, the relocated Hands On Children’s Museum is celebrating its first Arts Walk with free admission and activities Friday night and free tours Saturday.

  • Council to discuss plastic bags, homelessness

Fresh off its annual retreat last weekend, the Olympia City Council meets again tonight to talk about everything from plastic bags to homeless services.

  • Strings, brass, wind, percussion

In the holiday whirl, it’s good to just sit and listen sometimes. While there are plenty of excellent ticketed concerts coming up, it’s even more relaxing to enjoy a free show. Thanks to Pacific Lutheran University’s studio series, you have your choice of four free concerts this week and next.
