Safe Kids Pierce County is seeking new members to join the coalition striving to keep local youth safe and injury-free.

The coalition’s next meeting is at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at the West Pierce Fire & Rescue station located at 5000 Steilacoom Blvd. SW. The topic of the meeting is sports injury prevention and two presenters will speak about overuse and head injuries, the importance of hydration and more.

    LYNDEN - Climb aboard a fire engine, sit inside a police car or find your way out of a simulated burning building during the fourth annual Safe Kids Whatcom County Safety Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

    The free event at the Fairway Center, corner of 17th and Front streets, features a range of information about safety, from household to recreational.

    Displays and games teach about water, fire and pedestrian safety. A fire-safety house helps children learn how to react if there is a fire in their home. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to show how car seats should be installed. Kids who bring their own bike and helmet can learn about riding safely on a bicycle skills course.
