The Kitsap County coroner said cocaine contributed to the death of a state Department of Natural Resources diver who drowned south of Bainbridge Island.
David Scheinost, 24, of Puyallup was sampling geoduck clams for paralytic shellfish poisoning July 24 when he briefly surfaced and then sank.
His body was recovered three days later.
The coroner’s report was released Tuesday and says Scheinost’s cause of death was drowning, but cocaine intoxication was a factor.
Scheinost had worked for DNR since February.
