Last week’s rank in parentheses:

TOP 25

1. Alabama 1-0 (2): After win over Michigan, Tide looks like prohibitive favorite.

2. USC 1-0 (1): It’s not often a team wins, 49-10, and falls from No. 1 to No. 2 in polls.

3. LSU 1-0 (3): Non-conference foe with actual pulse – UW – visits Baton Rouge.

4. Oregon 1-0 (4): Is there a more exciting player in college football than De’Anthony Thomas? Not likely.

5. Florida State 1-0 (6): Tough news in Tallahassee: DE Brandon Jenkins for season.

6. Oklahoma 1-0 (5): Opener would have been a little early for annual letdown loss.

7. Georgia 1-0 (7): Bulldogs get huge plays from freshman RB? Call him Herschel 2.0.

8. South Carolina 1-0 (9): Team finds QB to make plays for offense, not opposing defense.

9. West Virginia 1-0 (10): Geno Smith goes 32-of-36 for 323 yards? Wait, he missed four.

10. Arkansas 1-0 (11): Last week it’s Jacksonville State; this week, La.-Monroe? Boring!

11. Clemson 1-0 (13): Slimmer, trimmer Tahi Body looks like new quarterback for Tigers.

12. Michigan State 1-0 (15): Good win over Boise State; Andrew Maxwell looked comfy at QB.

13. Wisconsin 1-0 (12): Transfer QB Danny O’Brien looked solid in debut last week.

14. Nebraska 1-0 (16): Taylor Martinez throws 5 TDs in a game; that’s not a typo.

15. Ohio State 1-0 (19): Fans can’t complain about ultra-conservative Tressell-ball.

16. Virginia Tech 1-0 (17): Fireworks after forcing OT seemed a bit much.

17. Oklahoma State 1-0 (18): Was it necessary to score 84 points on Savannah State?

18. Michigan 0-1 (8): Denard Robinson’s Heisman hopes last one game. Won’t be last hopes ’Bama defense crushes.

19. Texas 1-0 (14): Earl “Tyler Rose” Campbell to be honorary captain this week.

20. TCU 1-0 (20): Next win gives Gary Patterson 110, most in school history.

21. Kansas State 1-0 (21): Allowing 418 yards to Missouri State? Not inspiring.

22. Florida 1-0 (23): Gators get to play in first SEC conference game at Texas A&M.

23. Louisville 1-0 (NR): Well, someone has to win Big East.

24. BYU 1-0 (NR): Cougars looked big, physical in trouncing Washington State.

25. Notre Dame 1-0 (NR): Admit it. You didn’t tune in at 6 a.m.

PAC-12

1. USC 1-0 (1): Trojans could have scored 70 points on Hawaii if they wanted to.

2. Oregon 1-0 (2): We saw firsthand why Chip Kelly chose Marcus Mariota to be his starting quarterback.

3. Washington 1-0 (4): Defense improved, but real test is this week at No. 3 LSU.

4. Utah 1-0 (5): QB Jordan Wynn looked great at times, awful at others … he’s back to his old form.

5. Stanford 1-0 (3): Maybe life after Andrew Luck won’t be quite as easy for the Cardinal as some predicted.

6. UCLA1-0 (8): Who scores on a 72-yard run on his first collegiate play? Brett Hundley, that’s who.

7. Arizona State 1-0 (11): Sun Devils won their opener, and Todd Graham didn’t leave for a new job. Good week.

8. Oregon State 0-0 (9): No tuneup against Nicholls State. Will they get tuned up by Wisconsin in Corvallis?

9. Arizona 1-0 (10): Sure it was a little tough against Toledo, but Matt Scott looks right at home at QB.

10. Washington State 0-1 (7): The vaunted Mike Leach offense managed just two field goals in its debut.

11. California 0-1 (6): Jeff Tedford and Bears laid an egg in grand reopening of Memorial Stadium.

12. Colorado 0-1 (12): Another loss to Colorado State? It’s going to be another long year in Boulder.
