The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to terms on a new six-year contract with linebacker Daryl Washington.

Washington had two years remaining on his rookie contract.

"Two things that successful teams do consistently is build through the draft and keep their core players," Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said in a statement on Thursday. "Daryl has certainly lived up to the potential we all saw in him coming out of TCU in 2010 and he has established himself as one of the top young defensive players in the NFL. I know he feels, like we do, that his best football is still ahead of him and we're thrilled that this deal gives him the opportunity to achieve that with the Cardinals."

The 25-year-old Washington set career highs with a team-leading 111 tackles, five sacks and two interceptions while starting all but one of the 15 games he played in last season.

Arizona selected the Texas native in the second round (47th overall) of the 2010 draft. In his rookie year, Washington played in all 16 games, starting 11 of them, and registered 77 tackles.
