SeaTac’s Alaska Air Group said Friday that its passenger traffic continues to grow even faster than its relatively ambitious increases in capacity.

The airline holding company, parent of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, grew its capacity by 7.1 percent in August, but passenger traffic grew by 7.8 percent, compared with August 2011.

The result was planes operating closer to capacity than in August last year. The two airlines combined filled 88.4 percent of their seats last month compared with 87.8 percent a year earlier.
