After a 31/2-year tenure at a Fife office park, Flagship Maritime is bringing its headquarters and training classroom back to downtown Tacoma’s Thea Foss Waterway.
The training center hosted an open house in its new quarters at 821 Dock St. on Friday to introduce customers and prospective clients to its new corporate abode.
The training business opened in 2006 on the east side of the Foss in a small office at the Johnny’s Dock restaurant.
Flagship is returning to the Foss neighborhood to be nearer the water and because the company needed more room for its offices and its classroom instruction, said Flagship’s director, Skip Anderson.
Flagship specializes in teaching U.S. Coast Guard-approved courses in the both basic and advanced boating skills.
As a state-licensed vocational school, Flagship helps boaters put their at-sea experience to work as licensed merchant mariners. Among typical students are fishing guides, dive charters, sailing charters, tugboat workers, yacht delivery persons, small passenger vessel captains, and maritime security workers, the company said.
In addition, the training center teaches rescue and law enforcement officers maritime skills.
Two other experienced mariners also teach courses for Flagship in Tacoma, Seattle, Westport, Everett, Port Angeles and Portland.
