Brett Hundley passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns in an outstanding Rose Bowl debut, Datone Jones sacked Taylor Martinez for a tiebreaking safety with 8 minutes, 44 seconds to play, and UCLA surprised No. 17 Nebraska, 36-30, on Saturday night in Pasadena, Calif.

Johnathan Franklin rushed for 217 yards and caught an 8-yard TD pass with 2:13 to play for the Bruins, who improved to 2-0 under new coach Jim Mora with an impressive offensive performance against the Cornhuskers (1-1).

Joseph Fauria caught two TD passes and Steven Manfro grabbed another from Hundley, the redshirt freshman who went 21-for-31 passing and coolly led the Bruins to 653 total yards.

After Jones’ ferocious sack put the Bruins ahead in a defense-dominated second half, Andrew Abbott intercepted a long pass by Martinez and returned it to the Nebraska 16, setting up Franklin’s TD catch.

No. 2 Southern Cal 42, Syracuse 29: Matt Barkley matched a school record with six touchdown passes, and Robert Woods was spectacular with 200 all-purpose yards and two scores against the Orange.

The rare trip to the Northeast for the Trojans was choppy at times, and Syracuse’s hurry-up offense kept USC (2-0) working hard for four quarters at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the home of the Giants and Jets.

Led by Ryan Nassib, Syracuse (0-2) kept things close with consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter to make it 21-16 heading into the fourth.

At No. 4 Oregon 42, Fresno State 25: Kenjon Barner ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Ducks past the Bulldogs.

De’Anthony Thomas ran for 102 yards and two additional scores for Oregon (2-0), which sprinted to a 35-6 lead in the first half before the Bulldogs (1-1) were able to slow them a bit in the second.

Sacramento State 30, at Colorado 28: Edgar Castaneda’s 30-yard field goal as time expired gave the Hornets a stunning win over the Buffaloes.

It’s the second consecutive season Sacramento State (1-1) of the Big Sky Conference Hornets won at a Pac-12 stadium. They upset Oregon State, 29-28, in overtime in last year’s opener.

This stunner dropped the Buffaloes (0-2) to 1-2 against FCS-level opponents.

At Cal 50, Southern Utah 31: Golden Bears cornerback Marc Anthony scored on a 61-yard interception return in the fourth quarter and Cal (1-1) shook off another sluggish start at home to beat the Thunderbirds (0-2).

At Stanford 50, Duke 13: Drew Terrell returned a punt 75 yards for a score and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass, Ed Reynolds took one of his two interceptions for another touchdown and the Cardinal (1-1) rebounded from a disappointing debut to roll past the Blue Devils (1-1).

Having already wrapped up the AFC East the previous week, a big win on Monday has the Patriots' sights set on the top spot in the conference. Thanks to four touchdown passes from Tom Brady, New England took a 42-14 win over the Houston Texans on Monday night. New England (10-3), which is now 21-0 in the second half of the season since 2010, has ripped off seven straight wins and is now tied with Denver and just a game behind Houston (11-2) for the coveted top spot in the AFC. Brady was 21- for-35 with 296 yards while Aaron Hernandez posted eight catches for 58 yards and two scores. Brandon Lloyd caught a score and also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score while Donte Stallworth, who re-signed with the team last Monday, had the other touchdown reception. Stevan Ridley carried the ball 18 times for 72 yards and his touchdown in the fourth quarter put the emphasis on the rout as New England eclipsed the 40-point mark for the fifth time this season, including the third time in the past four weeks. Houston, meanwhile, saw a six-game winning streak snapped and while the team has already locked up a playoff spot, it is still fighting for the top spot in the AFC South. Sitting two games ahead of Indianapolis, the Texans will welcome the Colts to Houston next Sunday. After hosting Minnesota, Houston will play in Indianapolis for the final game of the regular season.
