The co-author of “Rails to Paradise: The History of the Tacoma Eastern Railroad (1890-1919)” has researched many Washington train crashes, and one of the wrecks featured in his talk is the infamous March 13, 1959, wreck of a runaway, crewless train that resulted in many casualties and destroyed half a city block in downtown Olympia.
