Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during Sunday's win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Grimes, who received Atlanta's franchise tag in the offseason, missed four games in 2011 after having minor knee surgery.

The six-year veteran out of Division-II Shippensburg University recorded 49 tackles, one interception and forced one fumble last season.

Over 59 career games, Grimes has tallied 254 tackles and 13 interceptions.

Atlanta head coach Mike Smith said in a press conference that "Grimes' injury will require surgery and the recovery time is beyond the season."

Grimes, who was a 2010 Pro Bowl alternate, moved to right cornerback after the Falcons acquired Asante Samuel in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
