A 53-year-old Western State Hospital patient died Saturday, two days after he choked during dinner, officials said Monday.
The officials declined to release the name of the patient, who began choking about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Hospital workers tried to resuscitate the man but were unsuccessful.
The patient’s guardians decided Saturday to take him off life support.
The hospital said it was investigating the death, which is standard procedure when a patient dies unexpectedly.
