That’s how long it took for 0.01 inches of rain to fall late Sunday at Sea-Tac Airport.
That was the minimum amount of moisture needed to qualify as measurable rain, ruining the region’s chance to mark the longest dry spell. The record remains 51 days set in the summer of 1951.
“This is like losing a high-scoring basketball or football game by only 1 point … really frustrating!” University of Washington meteorologist Cliff Mass wrote on his blog.
The brief shower started at 11:35 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The recent dry streak was long enough for second place. The 48-day stretch began July 23 and ended Sunday just shy of the record. The third-longest dry spell was 45 days in 1991.
Raindrops will remain something of a rarity in Western Washington for the next two weeks with warm, dry weather in the forecast. Today’s high is expected to be 66 with temperatures slowly building to the high 70s by the end of the week.
