To celebrate the start of service, Sound Transit will hold a public ribbon-cutting event on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Lakewood, South Tacoma and Tacoma Dome stations.

An $89 million project to reroute Amtrak trains through DuPont, Lakewood and South Tacoma has won key federal approval but could face a local court challenge.
The Federal Railroad Administration has approved the proposed rerouting of Amtrak passenger trains through DuPont, Lakewood and South Tacoma following a three-year review that determined the project would not result in significant adverse impacts on the environment.
The City of Lakewood has sued the state to stop the proposed rerouting of Amtrak passenger trains through the community in its tracks.
There wasn’t an obvious “best” among the options for extending Link light rail further into Tacoma. But the City Council has tentatively chosen a very good one: the “E-1 North Downtown Central Corridor.”
