Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson has been charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery by the Broward County State Attorney in Florida.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday and is expected to file a written plea of not guilty.

The 34-year-old Johnson was arrested last month after his wife, Evelyn Lozada, accused him of head-butting her during an argument. Johnson was freed on $2,500 bond.

If convicted, Johnson could face up to one year in the Broward County Jail, according to a release obtained by NFL.com and NFL Network on Wednesday.

Johnson's contract was terminated by the Miami Dolphins following the incident.
