Six-time Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson has been formally charged in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery.
He faces up to a year in county jail.
Johnson was arrested last month after his wife, Evelyn Lozada, accused him of head-butting her during an argument in front of their home.
The Dolphins released Johnson a day after his arrest.
The confrontation came barely a month after Johnson married Lozada, who is on the reality TV show “Basketball Wives.” The 34-year-old Johnson had been battling for a spot on the Miami Dolphins after a disappointing season with the New England Patriots in 2011.
Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned this morning and to file a written plea of not guilty.
A FIRST FOR GRIFFIN
Robert Griffin III is the first rookie quarterback to win an offensive player of the week award after his debut game.
Griffin was the NFC offensive player of the week for his performance in the Washington Redskins’ 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints.
The No. 2 overall draft pick completed 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday’s victory — the first player in league history to amass 300-plus yards passing, two or more passing touchdowns and no interceptions in an NFL debut.
Griffin is also the first rookie quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards and win a season opener.

NFL teams combined for 791 points, the most for an opening week and second most in league history.
Only in Week 12 of the 2008 season were more points scored, 837.
Last week, games averaged just over 49 points, led by five teams putting up at least 40: the Jets (48), Ravens (44), Bears (41), Falcons (40), and Redskins (40). Never during an opening week had there been so many 40-point outputs.

Arizona quarterback John Skelton, out with a sprained right ankle, did not practice Wednesday but coach Ken Whisenhunt would not rule him out for Sunday. Kevin Kolb said he practiced with the first unit on Wednesday but has not been told whether or not he will start against the Patriots. … Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has been excused to be with his family after his younger brother was one of three people shot and killed in a suburb of Birmingham, Ala., last weekend. He should return in time for Buffalo’s home opener against Kansas City on Sunday. … Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith was fined $15,750 for his horse-collar tackle that prevented a touchdown on Michael Boley’s interception return in the season-opening win over the Giants. … Injury-riddled Jacksonville claimed offensive tackle Troy Kropog off waivers from Tennessee. … Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis, who suffered what the team called a “mild concussion” in last Sunday’s victory over the Buffalo Bills, was cleared to resume physical activity – running and lifting weights – but he’s still not allowed to participate in contact drills. … Colts receiver Austin Collie, who has not played since being diagnosed with a concussion Aug. 19, will practice this week and could make his first regular-season appearance Sunday against Minnesota. … St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Rodger Saffold had very limited duty in practice Wednesday, three days after being carted off the field with a significant neck injury that landed him in a Detroit hospital.
