The Hilltop is getting a second craft cocktail lounge from the owner of 1022 South. Chris Keil plans a mid to late-spring opening for Hilltop Kitchen, a 49-seat cocktail lounge and eatery in the space where Tempest Lounge operated from 2005 until last September. He’ll open Hilltop Kitchen with Matt Schweitzer, a managing partner at Cal’s Classic American.
South Sound flamenco is gaining rhythm, with semi-regular gigs everywhere from Tacoma’s New Frontier Lounge to Olympia’s La Gitana pizzeria. If you’re a fan of the flurried footsteps and fluttering fan, you’ll have a chance this weekend to learn a little flamenco for free at the Gig Harbor Library.
About 700 people, including fathers of all ages, enjoyed an afternoon of rousing and uplifting band music, beginning with hand-over-heart versions of national anthems “O Canada” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and ending with service songs for branches of the military in the U.S. and Canada.
