Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium's new Sumatran tiger cub made its debut Thursday at the zoo's Cub Den in the Asian Forest Sanctuary.
The 3-week-old cub will live in the Asian Forest Sanctuary, and visitors can see him there sleeping, playing with toys and exploring his world. There will be special keeper interactions each day at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
On its Facebook page, the zoo said the cub weighs almost 9 pounds and is "growing rapidly." He was born Aug. 22 to Jaya, who gave birth to two cubs in 2010. The Sumatran tiger is a critically endangered species, and births in zoos are extremely rare, the zoo’s general curator, Karen Goodrowe Beck, said in August.
The little cub doesn't have a name yet, though, and Point Defiance is asking the public's help in choosing one. There are six options -- Dumai, Moro, Rokan, Satu, Toba, Tunggal -- and you can vote for your favorite at www.surveymonkey.com/s/cubname.
