Tacoma’s lucky to have two universities and a community college with high-quality music departments, but you don’t have to fork out dollars to see everything they do. Many of the concerts performed by staff and students at the University of Puget Sound are free, often interestingly programmed and always high-standard. Keep an eye on the online UPS events calendar for details, but meanwhile here are some fall concerts to put on your own calendar:

Keep an eye on the online UPS events calendar for details, but meanwhile here are some fall concerts to put on your own calendar:

7:30 p.m. Sept. 21: “Collage.” Hear faculty and students play short pieces of all different genres from all parts of Schneebeck Hall juxtaposed in a fast-paced 90-minute concert. North 15th Street and Union Ave., Tacoma.

2 p.m. Sept. 30: “22nd Annual Schneebeck Organ Recital,” played by Joseph Adam in Kilworth Chapel.

Noon Oct. 5: “Organ at Noon,” recital by UPS organ faculty Joseph Adam in the intimate resonance of the Kilworth Memorial Chapel. North 19th and Warner Streets, Tacoma.

7:30 p.m. Oct. 10: String orchestra concert, with works by J.S. Bach, Takemitsu, Vaughan Williams and Mozart, in Schneebeck Hall.

7:30 p.m. Oct. 21: String Festival student and faculty concert in Schneebeck Hall.

7:30 p.m. Oct. 26: Wind ensemble concert in Schneebeck Hall.

4 p.m. Oct. 27: Fall choral concert with the Adelphian Concert Choir and Chorale in Schneebeck Hall.

2 p.m. Oct. 28: “Happy Birthday Adelphians” reunion choral concert including world premiere of new piece by UPS professor and composer Robert Hutchinson, Schneebeck Hall.
