With plenty of good fishing taking place in the North Sound, this might be the year to take part in the 19th annual Everett Coho Derby on Saturday and Sept. 23.

The derby will pay $3,000 to the angler weighing in the heaviest coho.

Derby rules require coho to be caught in Puget Sound fishing areas 8-1, 8-2, 9 and 10; or any freshwater system in King, Skagit and Snohomish counties.

Tickets are $25, while children 12 and younger can take part for free. Retail ticket sales will close Friday at the normal close of business for the outlets selling tickets. Anglers still can purchase tickets Saturday, from 4-8 a.m. at Harbor Marine, 1032 West Marine View Dr., Everett. South Sound anglers can buy tickets at Sportco in Fife.

The derby also is part of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series. The drawing for the series’ grand prize – a fully outfitted fishing boat – will be held Sept. 23 at the Everett derby.
