The staff at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is celebrating one of its favorite marine mammals during Sea Otter Awareness Day on Sunday. Special events will take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., including a snack of fresh oysters for the otters. The zoo’s sea otters also will receive frozen treat otter pops and giant ice treat toys to play with.
During the event, visitors also can meet Homer, one of the zoo’s female sea otters. Homer is one of two remaining Exxon Valdez survivors in a U.S. zoo.
The zoo is at 5400 N. Pearl St., Tacoma. The sea otter events are free with zoo admission. For more information, including ticket prices and hours, visit pdza.org.
