This year marks a significant time in the history of the Pierce County Daffodil Festival as the nonprofit organization celebrates 80 years of providing young women opportunities to serve the community.
Community Schools of Lakewood will host its annual Champions for Youth Breakfast and celebrate 20 years of the organization working with Clover Park Schools. The featured speaker will be David Pritchard, assistant football coach at Clover Park High School, author and national speaker for Young Life.
Nearly 100 schools across the state, including several in the South Sound, have been recognized as 2012 Schools of Distinction for improving student achievement.

Lizotte, a student at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick and at Tri-Tech, participated in the first MAGIC Camp and was volunteering this year to share her love of welding. The four-day camp concludes on Thursday and featured hands-on introductions to various careers in construction. Knight is a student at Delta High School in Richland and Bagwell is a student at Othello High School.
Several Tri-City community groups and businesses are coming together Monday to fight childhood bullying.
Bethel Church, BMW of Tri-Cities, Ignite Youth Mentoring and national anti-bullying organization The Protectors will offer a presentation on an adolescent bullying initiative from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Bethel Church's west Pasco campus at 5202 Outlet Drive.
The presentation will go over myths and the causes of bullying, help for parents and actions needed to fight it in schools and communities.
