The American Red Cross has released an smartphone app for iPhone and Android users that will provide earthquake notifications and safety information in an emergency, officials said Tuesday.
Features of the free app include tips on what to do before, during and after an earthquake.
The notifications show the epicenter and magnitude of a quake, and users can broadcast messages through the program to let family and friends know they are safe.
Open Red Cross shelters also are featured on the app, which is available in English and Spanish.
The agency’s First Aid and Hurricane apps have been downloaded more than 1 million times, according to the Red Cross.
