Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford did not participate in Wednesday's practice due to a strained hip he sustained near the conclusion of the team's game at Tennessee this past weekend.
Stafford injured his hip during a defensive touchdown by the Titans with 1:16 remaining in regulation of Detroit's eventual 44-41 overtime loss. He was attempting to run down Tennessee cornerback Alterraun Verner, who was in the process of returning a fumble by Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew for a 72- yard score that gave the Titans a 41-27 lead.
It's as of yet unclear if Stafford will be available to play in Detroit's Week 4 matchup with Minnesota this coming Sunday. If he cannot go, veteran backup Shaun Hill would draw the start.
Hill threw a pair of late touchdown passes against Tennessee, including a 46- yard Hail Mary-heave to Titus Young as time expired in the fourth quarter that sent the game into overtime.
Also among those sitting out Wednesday's session for Detroit were Young (knee), safety Louis Delmas (knee), tight end Tony Scheffler (hip) and defensive tackle Corey Williams (knee).
Star wide receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) and running back Mikel Leshoure (groin) were listed as limited participants.
