Short-lived celebration
Tumwater’s 35-28 double-overtime victory over No. 1 Capital on Saturday will surely be one of longtime coach Sid Otton’s most satisfying wins. But the Thunderbirds can’t rest on that with EvCo rival W.F. West coming to town tonight.
McKay vs. McKay
Dad (Darren) will be coaching on Beamer’s sideline. Son (Carter) will start at receiver for Curtis. After years together at Gig Harbor, the McKays face off tonight in University Place. “I was ready to present a Power Point in class,” Darren said, “and he snuck a (Curtis) helmet and ‘Go Vikes!’ into it.”
Rushing to glory
Shelton High’s Ralph Kinne has 1,170 rushing yards through four games. He is well ahead of Ferndale running back Matthias Wilson’s state-record pace from 1997, when he rushed for 2,678 yards in 14 games. The Highclimbers play host to Foss tonight.
Off previous pace
Look who shares last place in the SPSL 2A standings? It’s defending co-league champions Franklin Pierce and White River, who are 1-3. Both have ground to make up. The Cardinals are at 3-1 Sumner, and the Hornets play host to 2-2 Fife.
