ARLINGTON, Texas — Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout became the first major league rookie ever with 30 home runs and 40 stolen bases.
Trout, 21, hit his 30th homer Sunday, a two-out solo shot off the first pitch Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish threw in the seventh inning.
The Angels rookie had a leadoff walk to start the game, then quickly got his 48th stolen base.
Only two players in the majors have ever had 30 homers and 50 stolen bases — Eric Davis with the Cincinnati Reds in 1987 and Barry Bonds with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1990.
The Angels have three games against the Seattle Mariners remaining in the regular season.
RANGERS COULD LOSE RELIEVER ADAMS
Texas will be without reliever Mike Adams for the rest of the regular season, and wll have to wait to see if the team’s primary eighth-inning setup man can pitch in the playoffs.
Adams, who gave up three home runs in a span of five batters in his last outing, said Sunday that he has been diagnosed with a case of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. That is when a bone in the upper body presses against a nerve, causing numbness and tingling in the fingers.
“Right now, they said the best (thing) to do is rest, see if it will release. We don’t know the exact severity of it,” Adams said. “I’m going to do everything possible to hopefully pitch again this season, but at the same time, I want to make sure that if I do pitch, I’m effective and I have good stuff.”
BAKER TO REJOIN REDS AFTER STROKE
Dusty Baker is going to rejoin the Cincinnati Reds in St. Louis after missing 11 games because of a mild stroke, and he will manage the team during the final series of the regular season.
Interim manager Chris Speier, usually the bench coach, said Baker was to meet the Reds in St. Louis on Sunday night after their game in Pittsburgh. Cincinnati opens a three-game series against the Cardinals today.
Speier said Baker was setting the team’s lineups, and he even called Sunday morning to make an adjustment to the lineup.

First baseman Mark Teixeira, out with a strained left calf, is expected to rejoin the Yankees today. Also, New York infielder Jayson Nix is expected to miss 10 to 14 days with a strained left hip. … The Orioles’ win against the Red Sox on Sunday clinched home-field edge for Baltimore if there is a one-game tiebreaker game to decide the American League East. Also, the airplane taking the Orioles to the Tampa area on Sunday night had its flight diverted to Jacksonville because of smoke in the forward galley. Michael Stewart, spokesman for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, said that the Delta charter was inspected and deemed OK to fly. The team resumed its trip on the same aircraft. … Phillies right-hander Tyson Brummett had his contract selected and he will join the team in Washington today. Also, Philadelphia transferred catcher Brian Schneider to the 60-day disabled list.
