Gov. Chris Gregoire has extended the burn ban east of the Cascade crest for another week to help with fire containment efforts.
A Stage 1 burn ban for Pierce County that began Aug. 16 remains in effect until further notice, due to the dry weather. The ban prohibits outdoor burning, except small recreational fires in established pits. Self-contained stoves and barbecues run with gas or propane are allowed.
Outdoor burning is prohibited in all counties east of the mountains through midnight Sunday.
The governor extended the ban because of a weather forecast calling for more warm and dry conditions.
Gregoire said she did not want to lose the momentum fire crews have as they gain control over several large wildfires near Yakima.
The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including campfires, bonfires, yard debris clean-up and fireworks. The Associated Press
