A man who ran as an independent for the new 10th Congressional District in the Aug. 7 primary helped thwart a man who is suspected of trying to steal a woman’s purse Friday in the parking lot of the Safeway in Yelm, court papers state.
Steven Hannon, who was a candidate in the primary, saw a man swipe a 77-year-old woman’s purse as she sat on a bench outside the store. He tackled the suspect as he ran through the parking lot.
Jesse Lemons, 24, was being held Monday at the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree possession of stolen property.
Hannon, who lives in Yelm, finished last among the six candidates running for the new 10th Congressional District in the Aug. 7 primary.
